YWAM Publishing - George Washington True Patriot - Heroes of History {TOS REVIEW}

Image
My favorite way to teach history to my children history. One of my favorite series is  Heroes of History  from  YWAM Publishing  we have read quite a few of them and Captain was thrilled to be sent  Heroes of History - George Washington - True Patriot . Boo reviewed them in the past and so Captain was thrilled to have this opportunity. The book itself is suggested to be for ages 10+ but because Captain reads at such a high level it was perfect for him. The only time I noticed that he age was a problem is when we were completing some of the study guide portions. So I am sure we will work through this again in 2 or 3 years and complete more of the essay style questions. If you have never heard of  YWAM Publishing - Heroes Collection  you are in for a real treat with this latest review! There are so many different kinds of hero books available and the crew reviewed a huge selection of the books available so make sure to check out all the other reviews by clicking on the link at the en

The Typing Coach {TOS REVIEW}

Image
Typing is becoming more and more necessary in all aspects of life. It's not necessarily something you can just learn by yourself, sometimes you need some help. We have been using  The Typing Coach Online Typing Course  from  The Typing Coach . It's quite a nifty little program that can help you or your older students learn to type without looking at the keys or your hands all the time. I can type pretty well so when I decided to work through some of this program I was surprised by how much I picked up and improved to. I think it works better for older students and adults as a lot of the course involves looking at printed text and copying it onto your computer using a word processing application. It's not that it's impossible for younger students to do, I just know my youngest wouldn't have the patience for it. The course involves printing the lesson text and using the online program to type without looking at the keys etc... It introduces each set of l

Boo was memorizing this scripture today for her church class. For some reason it really struck me and I wanted to remember it. The best way for me to record things is to share it here. I hope you find it as thought provoking as I did today! I love that all of my children love to read the scriptures and carry their own copies with pride. I truely hope that they will become wise unto salvation through faith in Jesus Christ. The Pencil Grip, Inc.Thin Stix 6pk of Classic Colors {TOS Review} and Giveaway

Image
My kids love to do art projects, and I love them doing them. However, I hate the mess. My older ones are really good at cleaning up after themselves but Captain is still in the 'Mom needs to help a lot' stage. Which is why I LOVE  The Pencil Grip, Inc.  and their newest addition  Thin Stix 6 pk of Classic Colors . They were the perfect addition to our latest art project that Captain has been wanting to do since he moved into his new bedroom. Redecorating can be expensive, but when you can put something together yourself the savings can add up! We have done quite a few projects with the Thin Stix but this latest one is by far our favorite and the one that Captain wanted to share. These handy stix are solid tempera paint and don't require any water. Plus they only take 90 seconds to dry. I can say that with confidence because Captain tried them. Seriously he counted to 90 (one Mississippi, two Mississippi...) and then ran his finger over his recently painted section - boo

Institute for Excellence in Writing - High School Essay Intensive {TOS REVIEW}

Image
High School writing  can be overwhelming! As we come up into the end of the high school years with Jam it can be intimidating as we prepare for the ACT and College applications over the next couple of years. We have been enjoying making it a little less scary High School Essay Intensive from  Institute For Excellence in Writing . We have used a lot of their courses before and have never been disappointed. If you ever have the chance to watch a presentation by Andrew Pudewa you really must. I have used the teacher training DVDs for writing and my kids have used the  Student Writing Intensive Level B  in the past and loved it. Both of my older kids were excited to use this program. Let me tell you, if you want your children to have dry, mundane writing instruction this is not for you. However, if you like to hear sounds of laughter etc coming from the room where your kids are watching this and you're jealous because you have to fold laundry or cook dinner then this program

P is for Pizza!

Image
Pizza is a favorite at our house. Whether it's homemade or from a restaurant kids love it and would eat it everyday if I gave them the choice! Well what could be better than FREE. I'm sure a lot of you know about the Pizza Hut BOOK IT! Program.   BUT did you know that homeschool families are eligible too! Yep that's right for every student in your homeschool that are between the ages of 5-12 you can get a Book-it coupons just like they give out in elementary schools. How fun is that! My kids love to read, but to reward them with free pizza is a win-win!!! You need to run over to Pizza Hut BOOK IT!  and sign up! It's free and it's the direct site to sign up as homeschool family (unless of course you have more than 5 kids then you need to contact them - the link is on the page!) I'm not receiving anything for sharing this information - it's just from the goodness of my heart that I think kids should get free pizza :) There is also a teacher newletter

ArtAchieve Entire Level IV {TOS REVIEW}

Image
My daughter has been really enjoying her  ArtAchieve  lessons using the E ntire Level VI . We have used Level III in the past and Boo really loved it. So she was really excited to be able to work on some of the projects from level VI. Boo was able to have access to all of the projects in this level and she really had great fun trying out new techniques. Each lesson can be watched as a video lesson online or as a PDF lesson if you want to do it that way. Boo preferred watching the video. The lessons that are available in Level VI can either be purchased individually or as a complete bundle. The Bundle purchase saves about 25% off the individual prices. The lessons available in level VI are; The Ukrainian Face with Hidden Surprises The Chinese Horse The Albatross and the Galleon Ship The Hawaiian Heliconia The Bangladesh Monster Draw like an Ancient Egyptian The Convent in L'viv: shading angular objects The Stained Glass Nativity Window The Rooftops of Zagreb Drawi

We had a new 'baby' arrive this week!

Image
This week I had some plans on Saturday and the kids went to play racquetball with dad. At lunch time I called to see if they had finished to hear they had found a little piano shop and gone in to have a look around. I met them and home to be told that they wanted to take me back to the store as they had something to 'show' me. We went back to the shop after lunch and the kids were excited to show me a cute shiny Baby-Grand piano. It was amazing and Boo spent quite awhile playing on it in the store. She had taken her music and was really having a blast. My husband was sold before he had even taken me into the store. We have had a weighted electric piano for about ten years and it's really served the kids well. The older two especially have really learned to play on it! I don't honestly know where the last ten years have gone! However, Boo is starting to think that she will want to take piano a little more seriously and so we needed to get a real piano. I was thinking
