Ready To Teach - Greek Morphemes Lessons (It's NOT Greek to Me!) {TOS REVIEW}

Image
I am a little obsessed with English and vocabulary. Jam and Boo have been taking Latin with their Nana in England for the last three years, and have really enjoyed it. So when I was offered a review to expand Jam's vocabulary using the program  Greek Morphemes It's Not Greek to Me  I was very intrigued. The company  Ready To Teach  specializes in Latin and Greek Morphemes to help prepare older students for pre-college vocabulary testing. The curriculum is aimed at grades 7-12 and is perfect for the home-schooled public schooled student alike. I mean really every child who wants to improve their understanding and use of the English language should have some basic knowledge of Latin and Greek. We received two books and a CD plus a USB drive. The USB drive replaced our CD so we never actually used that. All of our laptops have CD drives but I have friends that have the kind of computers that don't so the USB is definitely a good move. DR. ALENE H. HARRIS taught in

Fractionated goPURE Naturals Coconut Oil {Tomoson Review}

Image
I love essential oils and massage is something that I did at college while studying my three year Hairdressing and Beauty Therapy course in England (Yes you heard that right - three years). My husband is really the only one who benefits from my massage skills, which is a good thing because he suffers now and again with an old back injury. When I started massaging I used to use almond oil but since discovering coconut oil I love it. I was offered some coconut oil in exchange for an honest review and was really excited as I was just about out of my current supply.  goPure  has proven to be an excellent base for all of my essential oil needs. If you haven't tried coconut oil for massage and as a essential oil carrier you really need to! Here's some benefits of this product; Premium Grade, Grade A - Fractionated Coconut Oil - the Best Carrier Oil and Moisturizer - Great for Delivery Essential Oils & Active Ingredients FRACTIONATED COCONUT OIL BENEFITS: FCO is a li

1. This week we picked Nana and Grandpa up from the airport for their first visit to the country in four years. We went to England three years ago, but we haven't seen them in person since then - thank goodness for Skype! 2. Yesterday I took Nana and Grandpa on a field trip with us to my FAVORITE Amish shop. It's about 30 minutes from home so I don't go too often, I have been needing to go for a couple of weeks. It was nice to stock up on my home made granola supplies. Nana and Grandpa thought it was interesting too. I took them of a little tour of the Amish homes near the store. 3. Today we went for a walk as the weather was beautiful - and it's forecast for snow tomorrow - UGH 4. My father-in-law doesn't like cheese. My husband works for a company that works a lot with cheese and my fridge is full of it - ironic - not as much as the little part of our pizza for pizza night that will be cheese free :) 5. Hubby has long weekends for the next month (because o

Circle C Milestones - Thick as Thieves {TOS Review}

Image
If you have been around for a while, you know how much we enjoy reading books. We lean towards a living curriculum and so whenever we get the chance to read a new book we always jump at it. We were offered the first book in a new series Circle C Milestones called Thick of Thieves  by Susan K. Marlow and the downloadable study guide that goes with it. When this book first arrived in the mail Boo was actually in the middle of another book, and I had just finished one. So I got to read it first. The book itself is very well written set in the 1800's and based on life, horses and adventure in California. Andrea 'Andi' Carter is the youngest in her family and lives on a ranch in California. Based on the times they live very comfortably and Andi has many opportunities including the opportunity to get into mischief. When a new girl comes to her school, she is assigned the seat next to Andi this leads to the start of adventures and growing experiences for 14 year old And

Whatever Wanda! – Choose a Better Attitude {A Book Review}

Image
Do you remember Zig Ziglar? I spent a lot of my childhood listening to his motivational music. My Mom and Dad used to play it in the car all the time. Have you heard about his niece Christy Ziglar ? She's a financial planner, mother of twins, If that isn't enough she is trying to bring the same wisome and ageless advice that her uncle did but to a new, younger audience through her Shine Bright Kids picture book series. So I was offered a copy of the book 'Whatever Wanda' to review and of course give a copy to my readers. How cool is that! I don't know about you but I know I sometimes need an attitude adjustment - and so do my kids so the moral of this story is good for everyone. Basically Wanda is in need of a serious attitude adjustment. You know the kind - you have to go and do something you don't want to do and because of that you are going to be miserable NO MATTER WHAT! Well that's Wanda, she doesn't want to go to the Rubber Duck Days Fest

Random Five Friday March 20 2015

Random Five Friday 1. This week has been a little strange weather wise. On Monday we were outside enjoying the 78 degree day. Captain really enjoyed eating his free DQ ice cream in the sun! 2. Tuesday wasn't as nice but at least it wasn't raining. We got together with my sister and her two youngest for a day at the zoo. It was nice to be out, and considering it was spring break somewhere it wasn't too busy. 3. Well after that it's been raining all week...rain is really depressing. I know we need it, but couldn't it just rain at night. I mean that's a good compromise right. 4. My parents are visiting England. My Mom's been under the weather since she arrived there. I am hoping she feels better soon. 5. My in-laws will be here by this time next week. They haven't visited for four years and we haven't seen them since our last trip to England three years ago. ©2011-2014 Chickensbunniesandhomeschool. All rights reserved.

GPA LEARN - GPALOVEMATH (Great Parents Academy) - {TOS Review}

Image
Captain has been working for the last few weeks on a new supplemental math program GPALOVEMATH by GPA LEARN . It's a web-based math program for grades K-5. It is cartoon based with animated characters acting as 'learning coaches'. Each grade contains over 150 lessons and over 10,000 practice problems. They recommend 4-5 per week to complete a grade in 10 months. Although Captain is 6 he is working at at first grade level in his regular math program, so that's where we started him in this program. It was really easy to set him up, including his own log in so he can have a short cut on his laptop. To say Captain has taken to this program is an understatement. He has often done four or five lessons in a day. When you log in the program you come to a portal dashboard. This is where you can see exactly where you are and how you are doing. This screen shows your scores and how many lessons you have passed at 'Rockstar', 'Excellent' or 'Nice Job

Pattern Explorer - The Critical Thinking Co {TOS Review}

Image
Math is difficult for me. My husband finds it easy. I think sometimes the ability to look at the math problem as a pattern and figure it out makes it easier. Unfortunately this doesn't seem to be something that I find easy. Boo was excited to be able to review  Pattern Explorer Level 1  from  The Critical Thinking Co . The Critical Thinking Co  is a company that is committed to increase the critical thinking skills to help improve the grades and test scores for students. The company was formed in 1958 after changing names a couple of times it finally became known by it's current name in 2003. Critical thinking is identifying and evaluating evidence to guide decision making. This is really important in every aspects of life not just education. My husband can't understand why I don't like math, to him it makes perfect sense. You look for the pattern and solve it or you memorize the rule - and solve it. I agree if you can learn this skill then you can improve you

1. This week has been great - until last night. We had planned to go to the Zoo today with my sister and her kids as they are on spring break. Until Captain threw up - twice. Luckily he is a star and ALWAYS makes it in the bucket, but still Zoo day cancelled. We woke up this morning to grey/rainy yuck so as it happens he's not that disappointed anymore - especially since we re-scheduled to next week. 2. I made this amazing recipe this week. I found it in a coupon book of all places. We made a couple of additions. However, I can say that everyone loves it. Including my fish hating Jam. I thought I would share - because I'm kind like that!  3. Boo and I are going to the movies tonight to see Cinderella with friends. We don't go to the movies often as we normally wait for DVD so hopefully it will be good! 4. Since Captain was sick yesterday he's having an easy day today - playdoh.  5. We are on count down now for our visitors from England! The kids can't

Dial - Miracle Oil Body Wash Review and Giveaway

Image
I love being a  Purex Insider  I love trying out new products and then telling you all about them. I was recently sent a bottle of a new amazing body wash. When it came in the mail the first thing I did was open it and smell it. Then of course everyone had to smell it - tell me I am not the only one who's kids can't be left out! Dial Miracle Oil Body Wash So to carry on with that trend I am not the only one that has used it. Boo - loved the smell and liked how her skin felt after her shower. She swims for days a week and it got rid of her 'chlorine perfume' easily! Captain used it in his bubble bath and loved the bubbles it created. He is my big 'smeller' when he was little we used to call him 'sniffer' because he could smell something from a mile away - he was always commenting on smells. He LOVED the smell, and really enjoyed his bath. I noticed how soft his skin was when he got out. I am not surprised that the kids loved it so much. I h

Sasquatch Smartphone Car Holder Review

Image
I haven't had a lot of success with smartphone car holders in the past. I have owned at least 3 that I can remember. Two of which broke within a short time of use, and never really held my phone properly and one broke as my husband was trying to figure out how to install it! When I was offered the chance to review  The Sasquatch Smartphone Car holder  I figured I didn't have anything to loose (and maybe a lot to gain). I drive a lot and we love to use my phone for GPS, music and audio books. Sometimes it's a pain, especially when using the GPS to be able to keep an eye on my phone without fumbling around everywhere for it. I have been pleasantly surprised with this holder. It's been on my window now for about a week and hasn't dropped off once. It still seems really firmly attached. It it easy to change the position of my phone screen which comes in handy when we are using the GPS and listening to music at the same time. My daughter (normally my co-pilot
