Amazing Talented Hubby - New Pool Deck Success

Image
I am just going to take a few moments today to brag about my hubby. If you remember back a few years ago I had a hankering for a enclosed porch/sunroom. Unfortunately we had to say goodbye to our home and move an hour south, an hour I hear you scream. Well yes, just and hour to save my hubby commuting two hours a day. We missed him, and he missed us. So this works, we have more time together and we live so close to his work he even comes home for lunch most days. So of course this move meant that we left our nice sun-room and our beautiful community summer pool behind. These were some of our favorite things. Our current town has an amazing swim team and an indoor pool which we love, but the outdoor pool is just that a pool, no zero entry and a lot of people.   So we got a pool. For the last three years we have enjoyed it and this year we wanted to step up the enjoyment so hubby has built a deck. The extra awesome park is he built it (mostly) out of wood that was given to him. Inser

Sunya - The Magic and Wonder of Math and Science Multiplying & Dividing {TOS REVIEW}

Image
We have recently had the chance to play a game so new it's not even available yet.  Sunya - The Magic and Wonder of Math and Science Multiplying and Dividing . This is a very unique game that helps memorization of multiplication and division from  Sunya Publishing I played this game with Jam and Boo as it is designed for ages 9 and up. For this review we received; Game book Sixty playing cards Multiplying and Division number line 30 fact and riddle cards The riddle cards are super fun! The inventor/author has a bachelor's degree from John Carroll University and a master's degree from Barry University. He has worked in teaching.  The game itself is fun educational game. We enjoyed playing it even though it took a couple of tries before we got a hang of it. Sunya (the "u" is pronounced as "oo" in "book") is from the Sanskrit language which is an ancient and classical Indian language. The word means empty or void which

Science Shepherd - Introductory Science {TOS REVIEW}

Image
I have been using  Introductory Science  from Science Shepherd  with Captain for a few weeks now. To say he loves it is an understatement. I have not reminded him about doing this subject since the day we first logged on. He had a already watch over a weeks worth of videos before the student book arrived, and then he went back and watched them again so he could complete the workbook. We received a 12 month access to daily 2-5 minute videos and a copy of the level A workbook. The program is a full science course for children aged 6-11 and covers topics from the creation, science skills and tools, earth science; including meteorology, geology, oceanography, astronomy. Life Science; including underwater creatures, flying creatures, land creatures, human beings, be healthy. Physical Science; matter, energy, motion, and magnets, Captain has really jumped head first into this course. According to the pacing guide we should be about week 4 or 5 he's on week 9. He's compl

Memoria Press - D'Aulaires' Greek Myths {TOS Review}

Image
We have been pleased to use lots of courses in the past from Memoria Press and Captain has been influenced by his older brother's love of Greek Mythology so he was really excited to be able to work on a course just for him. We received their D'Aulaire's Greek Myth set  and Captain is loving it! To facilitate this review we received everything in the picture above. A student book, teacher guide and a copy of D'Aulaire's Book of Greek Myths plus a set of Greek Myth flashcards. The course is divided into 25 lessons with a review lesson every 5 lessons making a total of 30 lessons. So it easy divides into a full year course. I know some people don't like Greek Mythology but my older son loved and so it seems to have stuck. Boo didn't find it quite as interesting but even she loved the D'Aulaires book. Captain was excited to have his very own copy to study including a 'big boy' workbook. The other reason I like Greek Mythology is

Institute for Excellence in Writing - Linguistic Development through Poetry Memorization {TOS Review}

Image
One of my favorite vendors ever is  Institute For Excellence in Writing  so I jumped at the chance to review  Linguistic Development through Poetry Memorization . I chose to work on level one with Captain and we have had a blast! We even posted his first poem on Facebook while trying out the new 'live' video feature! This set is amazing and we have had a great time using it. What we received: Folder with 5 CD's that contained 5 levels of poetry. I was really pleased that the set comes with all 5 levels so this is a program that will grow with Captain. Plus this folder is perfect for storing the CD's in and Captain loves how special it looks. Teacher's Manual - This contains so much information. It explains why memorization is so important. Why kids benefit from learning poetry. I found this information really interesting. I went to a speech and drama class at school where we spent a lot of time memorizing poetry. In fact I recognized a lot of the poe

ARTistic Pursuits Inc.Sculpture Technique - {TOS REVIEW}

Image
We have had the opportunity to review quite a few books produced by  ARTistic Pursuits, Inc  so when we were offered one of their books again. We jumped to try their new  Sculpture Technique MODEL . I actually worked through the assignments with Captain and we had a blast. The book is actually written for children 11-18 so it was very important that I stress, we worked on these assignments together. Captain would not have been able to follow the book alone. Boo is excited to work from the book next, which is one of the great things about these books - they are non-consumable. You can use them for more than one child (or even yourself). Captain loves clay and we have used it many times at home. He was really excited that I gave him permission to use clay as part of our homeschool schedule. Normally it's considered 'play time' or 'art time' which sometimes doesn't happen as often as he thinks it should. So to hold me to use this book regularly was a hug

Kwik Stix 12 pk -The Pencil Grip, Inc {TOS REVIEW}

Image
My son loves to paint. However, sometimes I just can't cope with the mess that they sometimes bring. He loved using  Kwik Stix 12 pk  no mess art supplies from  The Pencil Grip, Inc . Kwik Stix paints  must have been made for me in mind. Seriously I love paints and I know they are fun for the kids but honestly sometimes by the time it takes to get them out and clean up, I don't know if it's worth the effort for the two minutes of painting, or at least that's what it feels like. I wish I had these paints when Captain, Boo, or Jam were little. They are excellent and honestly even I like getting them out. In fact I had to do a project for church and I wanted a better look than markers would have given me. Before these paints there is no way I would have attempted to paint a tree at 9:30 pm. I suddenly thought how good the picture would look in paint and boom...10 minutes later I had a tree painted (now remember I am no artist) and not only was it painted but
