Some of our favorite Usborne Books and a GIVEAWAY

Image
Over the last couple of years we have started to purchase a few  Usborne Books . I have a friend that's a consultant and of course I have been invited to many parties over the last couple of years. In fact I didn't realize that I bought some Usborne books before I really knew how popular they are. I wish that I had found them when my kids were younger they have such an amazing range of baby and young child books. Although you don't normally think of math books as favorites, that's excalty what has happened here in the last couple of months. I bought some math resource books from Usborne. Captain gets the middle level one everyday. The high-school version stays in Boo's school pile so I never even see it. I was worried that I was wasting my money, but NOPE they are a huge hit. Captain also likes The Usborne Geography Encyclopedia. When we first got this he carried it around for days. This book is awesome. It introduces kids to the whole world of geography.

The Crafty Classroom - How to Write a Paragraph {TOS REVIEW}

Image
Although Captain is working at a higher level than his age, I realized that I needed to focus a little more on writing. I don't mean handwriting although looking at the pictures I took that is definitely something we will be working on this coming school year. I had been thinking of doing a short study with him this summer and so this review from  The Crafty Classroom  came at a perfect time. We received  How to write a paragraph  and I have really liked it! The lessons are short and too the point - perfect for a little extra summer work. I received a downloadable file which I quickly printed out. I loved the colors on the front and the posters so I printed those on my color printer and then printed the actual worksheets in black and white. Captain likes his downloadable books bound so I laminated the front and each of the small posters that go along with each lesson and bound them all together in a nice little book!. It makes Captain happy to have his workbooks like this i

Image
Summer time is a perfect time to get a little crafty! Captain has been having a blast doing some  homeschool craft  using Rigid Wrap and CelluClay Quik-Sculpting Kit from  ACTIVA Products . We had a blast using this product. I mean seriously who can't have fun with something that reminds you of having a broken arm! We received a box containing rolls of Rigid Wrap and bags of CelluClay and Captain was excited to start! The box contained - Two rolls of Rigid Wrap  8 oz bag of CelluClay Instructions Link to e-book Sometimes when you get generic crafting supplies and not a kit it can be hard to think of what to do. Fortunately ACTIVA Products also sent us a link to their  ACTÍVA Products' Favorite Sculpture KIDS CRAFTS  ebook. Captain spent quite a bit of time looking through the craft suggestions. He felt like a kid in a candy store. Finally he decided to make a Totem Pole. Since we were going to attend a POW WOW shortly after this craft it was a perfect c

Do you like Groupons and Coupons - Now you can have BOTH!!!

Image
I love  Groupon  I always check out their offers before paying for an activity with the kids. I have even got their link saved for the city passes when I head out to Washington DC and New York next spring. I also have a bit of a reputation as a coupon queen! Seriously who doesn't love free stuff. However since our cross country move coupons slipped through the cracks. That it until I heard about  Groupon Coupons . I've used other coupon sites before, but since Groupon has such a great reputation it seems a no brainer to check them out. There is such a variety of coupons. Some that you can click on and use while out shopping and you need something instantly, or some to use from the comfort of your home via laptop! It's a seriously easy win-win situation. You click, see coupons available and then save! There are over 9,000 national retailers to choose from so don't worry if your tastes are different to mine - there is something for everyone! It's completely fr

Mapelle Films - Trust Fund Movie {TOS REVIEW}

Image
We love watching movies together, of course content is very important. We only watch family friendly movies so I was really excited to receive a new movie called  Trust Fund  by  Mapelle Films . I waited until we had a night home together, and popped some amazing hot popcorn! It was the perfect setting. I was a little concerned because I have quite a big age gap between Jam and Captain and I was hoping that everyone would enjoy the movie. Trust Fund is a very enjoyable movie. It is very family friendly and both of my boys watched it and enjoyed it, Boo enjoyed it too. The movie is about sisters. One funny thing about siblings is that they can be brought up the same way, going to the same school, the same church, having the same kind of experiences and yet be completely different in their outlook on the world. This is the case in this movie two sisters are raised by loving parents, they have everything they could wish for but choose very different paths. One of the things th

Field Trip Friday

Image
What a fun Friday. Captain and I went to a local wildlife center. The big kids were away and so he had a fun few days running the roost!!! He actually hand fed a goose. We will be spending a lot of time at this place. It's such fun and everything is free!! I bought Captain a compass. I can't see the exact one on Amazon but he really loves this one  Backyard Safari Expedition One  we found. It's already on his Christmas wish list! Fascinating Education - Biology {TOS REVIEW}

Image
Boo has been wanting to start biology as soon as she finished her last science program right before the summer. So this review from  Fascinating Education  for their  Fascinating Biology  was perfectly timed.  She was totally scared of Chemistry even though this program suggests to do it first she still wanted to try Biology first. Something about Chemistry just freaks her out! As it happens she was really glad that she was able to work through the  Chemistry Pre-Course for Biology  which really helped her get on the right track for the Biology. We are really familiar with the Chemistry course as Jam used it in 2015. You can read our review  here. There is so much information on this website and the company is very helpful. If you have any questions they are super quick to answer. This level of support is really reassuring especially when you are studying a harder subject like science. In fact it makes me smile every time we log on and see... I mean you can just feel th

4th of July Fun

Image
This fourth of July weekend was amazing! We have had so much fun. My son bought himself a kayak and then hubby had to go buy one too. Then Grandma and Grandpa bought Captain an early present, and he got one too. We all had a blast and I must admit I feel a lot more confident in the kayak compared to our older canoes. It was perfect temperature! Plus we had family visiting which made the trip perfect!!! We even managed to go to an Indian POW WOW I can honestly say serious fun was had by all!
