Friday Field Trip

Image
We had a great field trip this week. We went to see a show called "The Science of Magic Bill Blaggs". It was fantastic! All the kids loved it, even those who were a little over the suggested age.  Of course I couldn't take photos in the theatre during the show but I got a little picture before it started. Bill Blaggs is a real magician and does regular shows. It was great that his was willing to put this small show on for educational groups! We have another great field trip planned for next week...watch this space!

Still Life in Pencil and Pastels

Image
We had such a fun day yesterday at our new coop. Captain and Boo took an art class together. Boo was a little nervous because of the age range of the class but the teacher did a great job explaining everything without it seeming too babyish! They all got to do a art piece before they left. There will be a new one every week so I'm excited to share with you over the next few weeks what they do. Yesterday they both completed a Still-Life using Pastels. The Melody of the Soul by Liz Tolsma Blog Tour, Giveaway, and Facebook Live

Boo has been reading this book to help me with this review! She grabbed it as soon as it arrived even though I had opened my schedule to read it! She loves music and the title grabbed her straight away. She's loving the book - although was surprised by the emotions this time period and events sets off. She hasn't read a lot from this point in history and I think learning the facts in a history class and feeling the emotions while reading and connecting with characters is completely different! She loves this book and has hardly put it down over the last few days! This book is definitely helping Boo to connect with the emotions of the time. Since she also loves music she can understand how hard it would be to be forced not to play. Although hiding her piano would be a lot harder for Boo if she was ever in a similar situation I can imagine her trying. When you play and love music it's somewhere you can find peace and comfort. Something that is needed by Anna. Check out mor

Lava lamp experiment Apologia Exploring Creation with Chemistry and Physics

We had a blast today! Luckily even though it was snowing I managed to have everything in to complete chapter 1 of our new science book Captain chose.  We made Lava Lamps using a soda bottle, vegetable oil, vinegar, food coloring and alka seltzer! It was great - check out our Instagram to see the video! As a bonus we have been watching the The Great British Baking Show and I was intrigued with making a chocolate souffle! We were talking about density after all! We managed to scrounge enough leftover chocolate to whip one up! Captain wasn't a fan as he doesn't like dark chocolate but hubby (who was home sick), Jam and Boo loved it! It didn't last long. Which apparently is a good thing since it has to be eaten straight away! Still making meringue and folding it in and seeing how fluffy it was, made an e,cellent bonus science lesson for Captain - even if he didn't want to eat it!

Mr Popper's Penguins

Image
A home school group I belong to obviously has connections with a local theater. We were able to go see a fun version of Mr Poppers Penguins. There was a strict no photography rule during the play, but I managed to sneak one before it started. Captain came home and wanted to watch the movie version. It was different but still enjoyable. I love times like this when I get to spend time doing something special which just one of the kids. Our theater does special showings for schools and homeschoolers, it's a lot cheaper and takes place during the day - which is perfect for field trips! We were sat right at the top of the theater. Captain thought it hilarious when I referred to it as the 'Nose Bleeds' I had to explain it.

Blogging on the go

I have been trying to figure out a new app that i can use to blog with. I updated my phone and the blogger app was no longer compatible - which drove me crazy.  I hated not being able to write posts while traveling. You know when the mood hits you!  I hope that this one works out! This is a little test post to make sure😀 Remember our new puppy...well we have dealt with kennel cough and a possible vitamin D situation, and #Fileytheyorkie is groing strong. My mom bought her a cute dog sock monkey for Christmas - so cute!

Happy New Year 2018

I can’t believe how quick 2017 went! I am still trying to decide on a new word for this year. I’m leaning towards FAITH. One of my favorite scriptures is Proverbs 3:5-6 “Trust in the Lord with all thine heart and lean not unto thine own understanding, in all thy ways acknowledge him and he shall direct thy paths” I know that having Faith in Jesus Christ enables us to trust him. This scripture has meant so much to me over the years. I was about 15 when the meaning of the scripture first touched my heart. Of course what it means to me has changed over the years, as I have gone through various trials and highs of my life. I know from many experiences that prayers are answered, paths are directed, and lives are changed when we put our faith in him. Faith is necessary to help us navigate this life. It’s actually getting vital. Well there you are, writing this has convinced me that I need to focus on building our faith this year. -thanks for listening 💕💕😍😜 Disclosure of Ma
