Devonian - GREEMU {TOS Review}

Image
For the last few weeks I have had the opportunity review an awesome beauty oil from Devonian  called  GREENMU . It's plant based which makes it a great option for people who are avoiding animal based oils. Although I am not concerned with using animal oils I know lots of people that love the thought of just using vegetable based products. Last year I was introduced to  Emu Oil   when I was able to review products from Koru Naturals  and was completely impressed by it's quality (along with their other products). I must admit I was just as impressed with this plant based version. It's an awesome combination of plant oils and plant butter that is full of moisture replenishing benefits. It is basically the same in every way - except smell as the Emu oil and I love it just as much. GREENMU is made out of five ingredients; 1. Macadamia Seed Oil 2. Organic Palm Oil 3. Shea Butter 4. Sunflower Seed Oil 5. Rice Bran Oil I received a 4 oz bottle of GREENMU oil to use f

YWAM Publishing - Harriet Tubman, Freedombound {TOS Review}

Image
We have read and used  YWAM Publishing  historical biographies before and so Boo was really excited to be able to read the book  Harriet Tubman Freedom Bound  and it's  Unit Study Guide . Since we had reviewed on of their titles before we knew what to expect and Boo seemed to be able to make her choice easier than last time when we review  Clara Barton . She knew that she wanted to choose another female from their Heroes of History series. My feelings still haven't changed if I could I would buy this whole series. My husband finds Harriet Tubman very interesting too so we had many discussions about her life and what kind of person she was. Without quoting this book in it's entirety and without just saying 'You have to read this!' I am going to attempted to explain a little about Harriet Tubman. You can't think about Harriet Tubman without thinking about the underground railroad. She was herself an African-American abolitionist, humanitarian and

Field Trip Friday

Image
We have had some great field trips lately. We spent the day a few Fridays ago at a huge money museum. The kids had a blast! Apologia Educational Ministries - Writers in Residence (TOS Review)

Image
Boo wants to learn to write really well, and so we were excited when we were offered a new writing program  Writers in Residence  by  Apologia Educational Ministries . We received the full set that includes a huge all in one consumable student text and workbook and answer book.  Our first impression when we opened the box was how pretty the cover is. It has a picture of a fountain pen on the front. I used to write with one when I was in school, in fact it used to be 'the' type of pen to use. I have never found one for a reasonable price since moving to the US. Oh well, reminiscing over let's get back to the writing program. The program is written by Debra Bell she has a bachelor's degree in communications and a master's degree in English, and a doctorate in educational psychology. You can read more about the author at DebraBell.com .  This is a complete language program but teaching it in a writing focused way. The assignments grab the stude

A+ Interactive Math - Math Mini-Courses {TOS Review}

Image
Boo and Captain have been working on the  Math Mini-Courses  from  A+ Interactive Math . Although they don't really have any gaps in their learning but sometimes it's handy to focus on an area or two that might be a little harder than others. We had the opportunity to review two of the  Math Mini-Courses  offered by A+ Interactive Math. Captain has been working on Early Elementary Fractions. This course has 10 lessons and is suitable for grades 1-3. Boo has been worked on Decimal Numbers. In fact she completed the whole mini course during this review period. This course is for grades 3rd - 7th and has 20 lessons. If you like the idea of using the computer to help teach math. Believe me if your child works well on the computer these courses are excellent. Imagine video lessons, online and printable tests. Maths is not my strongest subject and although my husband is a bit of a math guru he's at home all day. although there has been times when he helps one ch

Scripture of the Week Malachi 3:8-10

Well he's done another one. We are down to 2 scriptures left to memorize for the year. I completely forgot to ask him today. So he was excited to tell me. However, with perfect attendance all year he nearly blew it this morning, he completely slept threw his alarm. Luckily he can get ready fast and when Dad got up ready to drive him, he was woken up, and ready to leave in literally five minutes - he showers at night - Thankfully! Talking Fingers Inc. Read, Write & Type {TOS REVIEW}

Image
Learning to type has been something I want my kids to master. I have been able to touch type - albeit not at lightening speeds for quite a few years. It's something even my husband practices. It this day and age of computer everything typing is in our eyes a necessity. Saying that I don't want my kids to spend a lot of time on the adult focused programs where you type nonsense into the computer forever. Here enters Captain's latest review  Read, Write & Type  from  Talking Fingers Inc. Captain has been working on this unique program daily since we received it. It is based online with no downloads needed, just log in and go. I was able to set it up on his computer easily with a link on his desktop. I told the site to remember his password and that was it, easy peasy. Read, Write & Type  for ages 6-9 or grades K-2 and is a super awesome program that combines reading, phonics, spelling, keyboarding and word processing skills. The program allows the child to l

The Trigger Memory Co. Times Tales {TOS REVIEW}

Image
My latest review was sent to me from  The Trigger Memory Co.  I was provided with a digital version of  Times Tales  to use in our home school. Captain has been the one using this program, although my big kids have watched it as well. Our goal of course is to learn our  multiplication facts . Captain is a very visual learner and so I knew this would be perfect for him. The videos are mnemonic based and really appealed to him. He watched it numerous times and I have definitely noticed a lot of improvement in his math fact speed. The multiplication facts covered are; 3x6 3x7 3x8 3x9 4x6 4x7 4x8 4x9 6x6 6x7 6x8 6x9 7x7 7x8 7x9 8x8  8x9 9x9 Times Tales works by using cartoon style characters that are put together in story form to help teach multiplication facts in a fun engaging way. I actually hadn't started teaching Captain his times tables yet but I had heard a lot about this program and I was intrigued. It seemed a really good way to teach something that is often co

LDS General Conference Weekend and New Deck

Image
This weekend happens twice a year and feels like Christmas! It started last Saturday when Boo and I got to go the  General Women's Conference  together. It was a wonderful meeting. I found it very interesting when they started talking about a sister who helped the Kosovo people in the 90s. It mentioned that she drove a truck full of supplies with her daughter, as I was sat there I realized that they were talking about my friends Mom. She helped organize a lot of aid during the Bosnian war. You can read about her  here  and  here. It is an amazing story and definitely worth a read. We have also been working outside a lot. Of course when I say 'we' I mean my husband and the kids. They have been building a deck half way around the pool and lower than our current deck but joined with a new set of stairs. It is so exciting. Ever since we put the pool in a couple of years ago I have dreamed about a deck next to it! My husband saw an ad in craigslist about decking and went up t
