Heirloom Audio Collections - With Lee In Virginia {TOS REVIEW}

Image
We love audio books. My husband says it's impossible to drive long distances without one. Needless to say we go through quite a few. G.A. Henty has become our true favorite. Enough action to keep hubby and I awake, and safe enough not to worry about the kids hearing something inappropriate. I was SO excited to hear that we were going to have the opportunity to review another awesome product from  Heirloom Audio Productions  I have reviewed a couple of other titles from them and so when then offered a copy of  With Lee In Virginia  I was super excited. I am not an American history buff. Jam know a lot more about it than I do, my knowledge is based upon my reading and movies catalog as an adult. My husband and I were born and raised in England so I am sure you understand why my knowledge is a little lacking. I was hoping this CD would arrive before we left on our summer holiday. As we were driving 18 hours each way I was definitely on the look out for as much audio as I could f

UnLock Math {TOS REVIEW}

Image
I have reached another milestone. My older kids have both started to do math that is on the verge of making me feel uncomfortable. There we go I said it - math is NOT my favorite subject. When I say things like this my husband looks at me in unbelief. That's why we are a perfect pair. I love to read and helped him rediscover a love of reading after we got married, and he helps me with math. So when I was offered to review a new program for Boo to use this year I was excited! Boo has been using  UnLock Math Pre- Algebra  produced by  UnLock Math . We have used a few online math programs before and I love them. Boo however was sold on this program from the first minute. Other programs we have used you hear a voice somewhere off camera but with this program the teacher is right there on the screen. Alesia Blackwood is that teacher and she does an awesome job. After many years of teaching high school math she doesn't believe that there are 'math people' but that we hav

PM-180 Tens Unit Electronic Pulse Massager - Review

Image
A few months ago my hubby hurt his back. There wasn't anything we could do to ease his pain, it was awful. A little while ago we tried a  Santa Medical PM-180 Tens Unit  it worked really well to ease his pain. I received this a little under a month ago My husband, myself, and daughter have all used it for various muscle aches and pains. Honestly it gives instant relief and it's so small it's easy to carry around. You don't have to worry about constantly replacing batteries as it comes with a little 110-240 Volt USB Charger. The unit has a dual channel so you can use it simultaneously on two people or two areas. There are 8 Auto Programs and a manual mode. Product Description Santamedical PM-180 Rechargeable Tens Unit Electronic Pulse Massager is a compact, portable, micro-computer controlled device. It can be used in many areas in your body, including arms, neck and shoulders, back, low back, legs, feet, joints etc. It may help to relieve pain and numbness i

SimplyFun - Shape Whiz {TOS REVIEW}

Image
We love games and educational ones are my favorite. I was given the opportunity to review a fun math game from  SimplyFun . The kids were a little dubious when I told them it was  Shape Whiz  a game about geometry. However within about 5 minutes even my 6 year old was begging to play. My kids are quite competitive especially with each other when we are playing games. This game calls for quick minds and fingers as you race each other to grab the shape card that fits the geometry clue. Then everyone has to agree (luckily the rules makes this quite easy). The older kids loved that they could steal each others cards. Captain even joined in and could work out some of the easiest clues. The game comes in sturdy box and contains 80 shape cards (45 Simple Shapes and 35 Complex Shapes), 40 whiz cars and the rules. There is no board to play on so it feels like you are playing a regular card game. The suggested age for this game is 10+. However, even though Captain read this on the box

Home School in the Woods - Project Passport Renaissance and Reformation - {TOS REVIEW}

Image
One of our latest reviews is from a really neat company called Home School In the Woods . The product we have been reviewing is Project Passport World History Study - Renaissance and Reformation . Home School In the Woods was founded by a family of six - and yes they do live in the woods. They truly run a family business and both parents and children are involved in every step of the process, from researching, writing, drawing to customer service. It's quite remarkable. As I said we have been using Project Passport World History Study: Renaissance & Reformation and we have been really enjoying it. History is one of our favorite subjects. We love reading and listening to historical stories. Jam is going to be studying the Renaissance and Reformation period this year and we have a lot of living books lined up for him to read. So when we were offered this program I thought it would be a great introduction for him. It's actually been a project we decided to w

This has been a full summer so far. We missed two swim meets because of our awesome family reunion in Disney this June. So besides the two swim meets we missed she also missed 3 weeks of swim practice. So we were a little surprised yesterday when we arrived at our summer league swim championships that she was placed 4th for the girls 11-12 high points competition. She decided not to get stressed about it and just swam her best. She was ranked 1st in the 50 Fly, 1st in the 200 IM and 2nd in the 50 Free. Well she did it and actually ended up 1st, 1st, and 2nd in all three of the races. At the end of the meet they announced the high point winners and she had moved from 4th to 3rd! She was so excited to get a trophy she wasn't expecting! 1. Boo's been gone at girls camp this week. Typically it was the hottest week of the year. 2. She happily went to bed at 8pm... 3. I missed her like crazy. She was stuck to me like glue after I picked her up. So I guess she missed me too :) 4. Boo and Captain have championships for our summer league tomorrow.  Jam can't swim because of all his summer travels to Disney, high adventure camp, and Youth Conference to Nauvoo he only made one swim meet. You have to swim 2 to qualify - luckily Boo and Captain just made it. It's been a busy summer. 5. Jam and Captain modeled in a little 'back to school' fashion show for our local Goodys store. Funny how four of the kids were homeschoolers :) let me see what's on my back to school clothes shopping list... I will let you know how the kids do tomorrow!

What is Freedom of Religion?

I really love this video and felt that it is an important message to share. I know this was produced by my church  The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints  however I feel that this subject is important to everyone who feels strongly about being able to be free to worship according to the dictates of their own conscience. 1. I can't believe the weather this week. We have had our air turned off the majority of the week. It's been unusually cool. Don't get me started on the rain - wow. The one positive is that our grass isn't turning brown yet! 2. Captain has been learning about different kinds of measurements today. He thought it was great fun seeing how many cups different containers could hold. Then we discussed inches and measured and drew lines of different lengths. 3. Swim team has been really cold this week. We even got Captain's wet suit back out. 4. We had a great fourth of July weekend last weekend. We went to see the  The Brett Show  on the fourth. They did a really great show. Garon and Brydon were Captain's favorite. They were so fun. Garon performed a brand-new song. It was amazing! It was called 'Why' I really hope I can hear it again soon! You can see them on Facebook ,  Twitter  and  You Tube . I only had my phone with me, but I still managed to g

1. I can't believe that it's our second July 4th weekend since becoming U.S. Citizens. 2. The kids had great fun letting off their fireworks tonight. 3. I had to postpone this till Saturday as we took so long lighting the fireworks. 4. Today we had an awesome day at our old home town pool. 5. We re-did a huge family tradition tonight for the fourth. Years ago we used to get together for the fourth and see a free concert and then watch fireworks. Then all hit IHOP after. We got to watch The Brett Family Singers from Branson. They were awesome, I will talk more about that another time. CursiveLogic {TOS Review}

Image
When I was younger I can remember spending hours practicing cursive at home after school, as can my husband. Our parents thought handwriting was very important. Despite this I have to admit I would like better handwriting, it's turned into a combination of styles into my own mix. When I first heard about  CursiveLogic  I was intrigued. Although I wanted to work through the CursiveLogic workbook  myself, I decided to give it a tougher challenge - my 14 year old. Jam's writing is not awful, but it's definitely not cursive. I have tried and tried but he always goes back to what he says is easier. He seems to find it too much trouble to put cursive lessons into practice in everyday writing. So what is the  Cursive Logic Workbook . It is a combined teacher's and student workbook containing step-by-step instructions for teaching cursive the  CursiveLogic  way. It includes student lessons, practice, sheets, and dry-erase surface pages. The lessons are suitable or adaptabl
