Random Five - a few days late

Image
1. We spent Friday at the lake, and I actually camped out in our tent. It was the first time in 10 years. I was pretty dosed up on allergy meds and my favorite essential oil allergy blend  Spark Naturals LLP . 2. We had a really cool real life science experience. We had been studying about how insects shed their hard exoskeletons. When we were camping we saw lots of the left over skeletons all over the tree trunks. Captain thought it was really cool to see the evidence of the science we had just discussed that very day. 3. The kids had a great time with their friends jumping into the lake. There was no swim beach but some low rocks that went into the lake where it was very deep and safe to jump. Jam and his friend checked out the area to make sure, and we made sure no one dived etc... The water was colder that it was at the peak of the season but still warm enough to swim. It was probably the last time for the year. 4. The camping adventure was organized by our Church ward. T...

1. I am a member of  The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints  and today I took my kids to the Temple. The older ones were able to go in and do some baptisms along with their friends. However you have to be twelve to go in and so Captain stayed with me it was amazing to walk around the grounds.  2. We went to the zoo again. We like to go once a month and since we were in the city it was perfect. 3. The kids favorite thing to do while at the zoo is 'feed the birds' Captain asked the the lady if he could have a grape to feed them. It's more fun and lasts longer than the special liquid they squirt into the plastic tub. The bird on the right is apparently nervous and plucks his feathers out. 4. Captain got to speak to a lot of workers at the zoo today. We saw a lot of birds and he learned a lot about them. 5. We managed another week in the pool. A couple of weeks ago the weather turned cold and the water went down to 65 I was really happy that we had a...

1. Have you watched the movie  Gifted Hands - The Ben Carson Story  it's worth watching! 2. We have been having a great time this week. Captain has flown through his math lessons and spelling tests. What made the difference you say...LIQUID CHALK MARKERS on my glass door in the kitchen! 3. I took my church girls on a field trip this week to our local Life-flight Eagle station. Captain had to come to because my husband was working. He really enjoyed it can you tell. 4. We have a new review coming up. The kids love them already. We played them as soon as the FedEx man dropped them off. Then we played them again when Dad got home! 5. We are having a good beginning to our school year. Random Five Friday - First Homeschool Field Trip of the New School Year

Image
Today we headed out to our city Zoo for our first field trip of the new school year. It turned out to be a really fun day. I am going to give you the top five things we did today. The first thing we did was go to the bird feeding. It's Boo's favorite and they don't do it when the temperature cools down. 1. Feeding time at the Zoo! I got a kiss! 2. The kids love to have their picture taken at each statue we find at the Zoo. We have them going back for years. It's really cute to look back on them. We found a new one today. 3. Our zoo opened a new exhibit recently for the Orangutan's. It's really cool, there is a lot of fun things there. Our zoo is really working on some exciting projects right now. Captain can't wait till they put in the splash pad! 4. One of our favorite things to do at the zoo is to take some time to sit and draw. We try to pick a different thing each time. 5. Do you see the cute little water colors in the pict...

1. This is our last week on our light summer schedule. The public schools here go back next week and Jam starts  seminary  it's a religious class that he will take every school day for the next four years. I can't believe how time has flown. I used to teach the class before Captain was born. In fact I taught for six years. He is starting with the Old Testament. 2. The older kids went away for a couple of days with my sister, her husband and two of her kids. They look like they are having a nice time. Captain, was a little spoiled while he was gone. We had some great one on one time. 3. Captain bought himself a toy from Dollar Tree yesterday, it was a dinosaur egg made from plastic. You had to dig out the dinosaur. He made some cool videos as he enjoyed it SO much. Part 1... Part 2... Part 3... Part 4... He had great fun with that $1. 4. I really need to work on my video skills. If anyone knows of a good Android app - let me know. 5. Captain finished...

1. I made 52 breakfast burritos yesterday to stock up on homemade breakfast food for my kids. It was really easy and warm up beautifully. 12 eggs - Scrambled and cooled (I don't add anything except salt and pepper) 2 packs of breakfast sausage - cooked and cooled - break up well while cooking Grated Cheese (I used just under 2 - 8oz bags of cheese (any flavor I have used taco and regular) 3 packs of 20 small tortillas. (I managed to fill 52 out of 60) Wax paper for wrapping Aluminum foil (optional) Cook eggs and sausage and put in refrigerator to cool. When everything is cool, I left mine overnight as it was just more convenient. Use a hot plate to warm tortillas then add egg, sausage, and cheese. Wrap in wax paper and then aluminium foil if using. I place mine on a baking sheet to freeze so they don't get squished together. When frozen and it's time to eat unwrap the aluminum foil and then microwave for about 30-40 seconds. (depending on your microwave). 2. ...
