Field Trip Friday - Symphony Dress Rehearsal

Image
We are in a really cool coop. We don't meet every week for classes or lessons (unless something special comes up). We are in a field trip coop. Every month or so one of the parents plans a field trip. It works perfectly for us, my kids love it. Today we went to the  KC Symphony . We got to listen to them practice at the  Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts . I had never been there before and we were really impressed one with the facility and two with the performances that we were able to see. The highlight of the day was the unexpected performance by cellist  Timotheos Petrin  this guy is very talented. Boo left the performance dreaming of learning the cello. When we arrived the Kansas City Symphony played an amazing symphony in readiness for their weekend performances. Then walked in Timotheos Petrin and - oh my goodness - he is amazing. We were in a dress rehearsal so after the initial run through the symphony stopped and started practicing certain areas of the symp

SchoolhouseTeachers.com Review and Half Price Coupon {TOS REVIEW}

I have been using  SchoolhouseTeachers.com  for about three years now. I recently received another  Yearly Membership  for the website. All of my kids use this for various subjects and I have really enjoyed looking over the new classes that have just been added. Recently Boo has been working on the geography course. Terri Johnson teaches this class. She is a homeschooler and also runs their family business Knowledge Quest Inc. Boo really enjoyed the course. She loves the combination of research topics, and map-work. She loves that it really focuses on learning facts about different countries in the 20th Century. The other course that we have been working with a lot is Music Theory I & II . Jam and Boo have been taking piano lessons for a long time. However, theory is something that we need to keep reviewing. Michelle Martin is the instructor for these courses she has been teaching music for over twenty years. She is also a performer, music writer and yes you guess

It's a new year and so I need to get back into the swing of things. Jam starts seminary tomorrow after Christmas break. Although the following scripture has been written on our kitchen door all of the holidays I know he's not ready to pass it off yet. So this is the scripture we will be working on this coming week. I can't believe it is 2016. This has been a great year, and we are really excited for the coming adventures. I was included in a fun 'top picks' post from Educents and I have found it interesting to read all the other picks. I can remember when I started homeschooling I was so overwhelmed with all the choices that it was great to talk to someone one who has actually used something and can tell you how something works. This gives your more of an idea of how something may work in your homeschool.   No matter what may be on your lesson plan for 2016, consider the resources below. Members within the Educents community put a list together of their favorite homeschool resources. If you'd like to learn more about the resource, just click the link! If you want to get more involved in the Educents community to learn more about homeschooling and the curriculum offered on Educents, join the Educents Facebook group !   Emily of Smith Squad recommends the Life of Fr
