Hewitt Homeschooling - Speeches {TOS REVIEW}

Image
A few years ago I was excited to review a 1st grade curriculum by  Hewitt Homeschooling  we really enjoyed it and so was thrilled to hear Jam and I were chosen to review  Speeches . We also had a great opportunity to use their writing evaluation service which any home-school mom knows that not being the only one to mark their kids writing is an amazing perk! However, I'll talk more about that later. We received; Lightning Literature and Composition Speech: Student Guide Lightning Literature and Composition Speech: Teacher Guide and Lend Me Your Ears Great Speeches in History  - This book contains a selection of speeches from around the world, and from different time periods. It's a great reference for anyone who will have to speak in public whether teaching, preaching, or performing in public speaking. Each of the speeches have been selected and introduced by William Safire. Jam really likes the book Lend Me Your Ears. There is so much content in it....

Affordable Online Math - CTC {REVIEW}

Image
We love  CTC Math ! We have reviewed it here many times before. It's the only math program that my oldest truly loves! Here's a quick video explaining how CTC works! When we started homeschooling math used to bring a lot of tears. We tried to continue with the program that the kids used in school, but it really didn't work for us. So we started looking for alternatives. We found a book math program which we really like but I wanted to find a supplement. We came across CTC and Jam fell in love straight away. Seriously, something clicked with him and math just started to make sense. The program starts with kindergarten and continues with grade levels up to 6th grade. After 6th grade it continues with topics and covers math all the way up to Calculus. Each lesson starts with a video that gives instruction on the topic being covered. Here's an example of how the lesson videos work for younger aged kids. In fact this is a snip from a grade 1 video. I have...

The beach - almost

Image
I love the sound of the ocean. Is there anything better. I would argue no, unless of course you are talking about the sound of children's laughter - that's pretty high up there too. When we lived in England we were never very far away from a beach. We lived in South Wales for a while and could be found sat on the beach, or in our car overlooking the sea if it was raining. We would drive out to the beach every Sunday afternoon whenever possible and just sit, rain or shine. When we immigrated to the U.S that was one of the things we missed the most...it just took too long to get to the coast and we missed it. Lakes became our second place of refuge and we LOVE them. Nothing beats the smell of the sea...but lakes with large waves come a close second. If you need to find somewhere to relax I would recommend driving to a large body of water and just sit. For me nothing relaxes me as quickly or easily. It seems to be genetic - the kids love it too. Disclosure of Material...

Adventures of Rush Revere Book Series - {TOS Review}

Image
Reading and History are two of my kids favorite things (I nearly broke into the Sound of Music sound track then). Captain reads at a really high level and it can be hard to find suitable books for him to read that are at his level. So when we were offered the chance to review the  Adventures of Rush Revere Book Series  from  Adventures of Rush Revere #1 New York Times Bestselling Book Series by Rush and Kathryn Adams Limbaugh  I was very excited and so was Captain. When they arrived I was completely sold. I love books that are well put together and these ones definitely didn't disappoint. They came tied together with a cute blue ribbon, and looked so nice it took me a few minutes to untie it! I love it when I can double up school subjects. Books that teach history as well as help practicing reading skills and improving comprehension. These books were written to help teach American History.  This book series was written by Rush Limbaugh  the...

K5 Learning - Online Learning {TOS REVIEW}

Image
Since I work from home a couple of hours a day. I love having a few online programs up my sleeve for Captain to work on. For the last couple of months he's been using the online program  from K5 Learning  to supplement our regular math and English programs. K5 Learning  is designed for grades kindergarten to fifth. It seems a pretty good balance between work and play. Captain actually really enjoys it and completes a couple of lessons most days without being reminded.  The program is very easy to use in fact after the initial signing up and logging in on his computer he does this completely on his own. This gives him a sense of ownership. What he doesn't know if that I can check on his progress in the parent/teacher section with my own log in really easily. The first thing we did after signing up was set Captain up with the placement tests. They are not very long and help place the child in the correct level. Although Captain is actually the age of most ch...

Latina Christiana Complete Set - Memoria Press {TOS Review}

Image
My husband and I think Latin is really important. So I was thrilled when we were chosen to review  Latina Christiana Complete Set  an introduction to first form Latin from  Memoria Press . It's designed for grades 3-6. We received paper copies (not downloads) of: Student book that contains 25 lessons and 5 review sections Teacher manual Pronunciation CD Flashcard set 3 Instructional DVDs The kids have been learning Latin for quite a few years. The older two even had Latin lessons via Skype with their Nana in England. However, it's just too much for her now. Since I want Captain to have a good foundation with Latin as well the courses from  Memoria Press  are perfect. I never learned Latin in school and so my pronunciation skills are very low. The three instructional DVDs contain a video for each lesson which adds up to about 5 and a half hours of instruction. Using these DVDs is a huge advantage over just using the teacher and student book. I real...
