We have a new school room!
We have been homeschooling for three years. However we have never had a dedicated school space. However in our new house we have a dining kitchen and a formal dining room space. We only have one dining table and really don't see the need for another one just to sit unused.
We have been living here for about four months and finally last night my husband came on board with the idea of a school room. We had all of the furniture we needed spread around the house, it just needed to be gathered into one room.
We already had bookshelves and our piano in the room and so after adding one of our filing cabinets (in an attempt to keep all those papers etc organized) and throwing the bean bags on the floor - it's as 'scholarly' as I want it too look. We are very casual in our style and I don't want to do school at home, however I also didn't want to have my children hide away in their rooms on the computer.
My husband set the desks up with docking stations and large screens so the all four of us can utilize the desks. The rule is that it has to be cleared at the end of the school day - as it is a shared space and needs to be respected so that everyone can use it.

The other side of the room was a little more difficult to photograph. There is a big window (which is great while we are working). On top of the filing cabinet we keep Little J's library basket, it helps us keep track of them during the week. I take Little J to the library once a week for reading time, and so we swap books often. My plan is to make the filing cabinet a little prettier or use is as a place to put up school posters. Our printers and drives are all in the basement family room to keep this room as uncluttered as possible.
What do you think? What is your school room like?

It looks great Lisa!
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing! I love seeing other people's school rooms! Our school room has lots of cubbies for all the craft supplies and hands-on materials we use :) It's a constant work in progress, especially trying to keep it all organized!
ReplyDeleteI found your post on Blogging Homeschoolers Daily Post Share.
Having a dedicated homeschool space is a dream of mine, sadly our house is just too small. Your space looks great. It is always great when the whole family gets behind a project.
ReplyDeleteI love seeing other school rooms! I'm still working on mine. I think it can be a neverending process. lol
ReplyDeleteYay! That is a great use of space! We are in a rental house for now, so back to the dining room and kitchen tables. Oh, and dad's office when he is not around during the day! ;)
