Field Trip Friday - Symphony Dress Rehearsal

We are in a really cool coop. We don't meet every week for classes or lessons (unless something special comes up). We are in a field trip coop. Every month or so one of the parents plans a field trip. It works perfectly for us, my kids love it.

Today we went to the KC Symphony. We got to listen to them practice at the Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts. I had never been there before and we were really impressed one with the facility and two with the performances that we were able to see.

The highlight of the day was the unexpected performance by cellist Timotheos Petrin this guy is very talented. Boo left the performance dreaming of learning the cello.

When we arrived the Kansas City Symphony played an amazing symphony in readiness for their weekend performances. Then walked in Timotheos Petrin and - oh my goodness - he is amazing. We were in a dress rehearsal so after the initial run through the symphony stopped and started practicing certain areas of the symphony. Timotheos Petrin was able to play without a score which didn't surprise me. However, what surprised, no amazed me was how he could play any part instantly. If they said to start at a particular place BOOM he was there, all by memory. I was SO impressed.

We had a great day. It cost $2 per person and was well worth the money. I will be on the lookout for more of these opportunities. If you have a symphony in your city you need to see if this is an option for you!
