Schoolhouseteachers.com Review
For those of you that don't know I was recently accepted on the Home school Review Crew. Which is a new exciting experience for me.
Today I am reviewing...
This is a relatively new website created by The Homeschool Magazine .
I have been checking out this website for a couple of weeks now and it is an excellent resource. Go to schoolhouseteachers.com to check it out.
The first thing I did when I went to the website was to watch their site tour videos. It was an excellent way to see quickly what was on offer.
The website contains teaching helps and lessons for over 25 different school subjects for all grades pre k - 12 (There is a lot that I am interested in for me too).
My children and I have spent part of everyday using the daily section. Here you can find short daily activities that fit in nicely with curriculum you may already be using covering. Standard subjects like Grammar, Math, Spelling, and Copy-work plus a lot of other interesting topics like Art, History, Astronomy, Explorers, Shakespeare and games. The 'Daily Grammar' and 'Everyday Astronomy' have been a hit with my older two.
Little J has been enjoying the daily activity 'Pre-K Activities; Read and Play'. We have been reading Luke 1-2 and doing some of the suggested activities. His favorite was his toilet roll angel. There is also an excellent coloring book telling the Christmas story.
Jam was given a guitar for his birthday last year from my Mom and Dad. Unfortunately they have been working away a lot and so he has not been able to learn how to play (Grandpa plays - Oh the fun childhood memories).
We were both delighted to see the guitar lessons by Jerry Jennings on the website. Jam and Boo already take piano lessons guitar lessons are just not in the budget (my husband and I both agree Piano is a non-negotiable subject).
Boo had great fun yesterday doing her 'daily' grammar. The assignment was to come up with compound nouns. The challenge was to make a list during the day and see how many you could come up with. Needless to say that she got busy straight away. When I asked how her list was doing a short time later she was already up to 50. Knowing Boo this will be an assignment that will never stop, I am sure I will hear "Mom, that is a compound noun!" What a fun way to learn grammar.
Click here to try the website for one month for just $1.00 for the first month and then $5.96 per month after that. You can also pay for a whole year for $64.26. Right now the yearly subscription also included a free tote bag.
There are so many things to explore on this website I am sure there is something for everyone, not just home school families. Parents of children in school could use this resource to supplement school courses, or just to add a little something - guitar lessons, languages, extra math practice etc...
I have focused on just a few of our favorite things. It is exciting to see what else I will find. I am looking forward to using the website all year. My kids are all grade 6 or below so I have focused on that age group.

I printed out the material (available to members only) and put it in a folder for him (the kind with the plastic page protectors). We were able to go back to the beginning of the course so he hasn't missed a thing. He is working hard to catch up as new lessons are posted every month.
