Home School In The Woods - Á La Carte {TOS REVIEW}

Home School in the Woods Á La Carte products
Sometimes you just need that extra zing in your studies, I'm sure you agree. We have recently had the opportunity to review some excellent hands-on history curriculum items from the amazing Á La Carte collection by Home School In The Woods. We had the chance to choose three separate items from the amazing collection. It was SO hard to choose as there are so many great things to choose from. I was able to try The Art Of Quilling, Captain's choice was a Name That State! File Folder Game, and finally a fun paper version of The Jamestown Replica(3D)
First, I will tell you about the things I chose and then I'll share the other ones I may have to get next!
Sometimes the things I review are just for the kids, this time I have to admit that I chose something just for me. The picture below is the picture shared on the download I received. I have heard of quilling but I hadn't tried it. I was a little excited and bought a little starter kit on Amazon to help me. The instructions are very easy to follow and wow! I can't believe Captain and I made a great piece of art. I let Captain choose the colors so our red flowers are different than the original. We also used a different cardstock color for our backdrop color. It's amazing and SO much fun! You can check out my video of Captain quilling here!

Captain did most of this quilling by himself! Once he saw me doing it, he was excited to try! I did do the leaves though they intimidated him a little bit! Next time I really think he will have them down.

Captain loves an electronic game to help him learn the states. So when he saw that there was a file folder game he could play when he is out of his electronic time he was sold! It was his first choice out of the amazing choices offered. You download the files and it's a simple task to print out the few pages. The hardest part is printing out the question cards - I decided to laminate them as well for extra stability! I know this game is going to take a beating! The game comes with several levels. I decided to start with the abbreviations of the states on the printable. I did print out the hardest version too as it's not going to take Captain long! I set up my file folder game using a plastic wallet as I wanted to be able to change out the papers easily! That's part of the beauty of these games - you can adapt the construction a little so they work perfectly for you!

This game is super fun! Except I can't play it with Captain...he wins EVERY TIME! We didn't make the little tokens. Since Captain gets this game out a lot they would not last long. Since I had put the cards in plastic pockets I decided to try it with dry erase markers and it works perfectly!

The last product we were able to review was a fun replica of Jamestown! We put this together Captain found some of it a little difficult. I helped with the difficult parts and since we have already studied this in history it was a great way to add more opportunities for discussion.

Captain keeps it on his table in his room. He loves how it looks!

There are so many products available in the À La Carte collection. Some of our other favorites are The Penny Rug NotebookComposers through History Timeline, and the amazing choice of timelines available! I think I need to collect all of them!
