A + Interactive Math - Adaptive Math Curriculum Online {TOS REVIEW}

A+ Interactive Math
We have had the opportunity to review A+ Interactive Math (by A+ TutorSoft Inc.) It's a program designed to help you identify math gaps in kids math skills called Adaptive Math Curriculum Online. Captain had finished his third-grade math with a different program and so I thought this would be a great way to check his skills before we get too far into the fourth-grade curriculum.

Adaptive Math
This program is online based and Captain had no problem completing most of the work by himself. However, since it is a placement style test it may be important for the child to understand that they have to do their best. The first test Captain took he failed terribly! I was shocked because I knew he understood the subjects being tested. The tests are timed and they question do disappear and move on to the next question when the time runs out. I noticed that Captain was going to the bathroom, washing his hands, getting a snack or generally just procrastinating. I explained that this affects the outcome of his test and made him resit it in his own time (I know I'm mean) however it did the trick and he aced the next tests! He decided it was worth sitting still and paying attention.

From the parent portal, you can see all of the tests your student has taken. You can also see how often they took the test and what the score was. Captain had some technical problems with the site a couple of times while he was in the middle of a test and it shows as an invalid attempt as he didn't finish it.

I think the test stops at the level you say the child is studying at. If you think the child is well above grade level you may want to start with that test. For example, I wish I had put Captain down as fourth-grade since he passed his tests at the third-grade level. If you want to see how your child does at a higher level the child will need to redo the tests at that level.

Captain needed to do a little work on his Algebra and Geometry. I didn't realize that the revision wasn't automatically assigned. So instead what you have to do is go into the test results and look at the incorrect ones. These are labeled with a topic and grade. This allows you to choose the suitable interactive video lessons and worksheets that your child needs to review.

Here's a picture of Captain's Multiplication test results -

You can see the number of questions right, wrong or missed and how the percentage is worked out.

You can also click on a link that shows where your child is, on an easy to read chart.

When on the website you can click on the review test button. This will then bring up a page that goes through each question on the test. You can click through the first questions which from our experience are from lower grades. For example, Captain did the test as a third-grader so the first questions he answered were second-grade questions.

If you look at the question above you can see that the note under the question shows you what grade the question is from. As you can see this question above is from third-grade.

If after completing the placement tests you want your student to complete video lessons and worksheets then they would need to log back into their account. Although as a parent you can see and access all of their information from your login, work needs to be completed in the child's account.

Captain is in the process of working through some of the geometry and algebra lessons he needs to cover. I'm not sure why he scored lower in these two tests as he is scoring 100% on the worksheet after watching a video lesson. It could have been as easy as him losing focus. However, since I wanted to see how these video lessons and worksheets work it was a perfect opportunity. I will, however, be getting him to re-sit all the tests with his grade moved to fourth-grade so I can get a feel of where he is from that perspective.

It's a great program if you want to see what your child knows at the end of the school year. I think it covers each topic reasonably well. However, each subject has about a 10-15 minute test so it doesn't cover 100% of each topic.

Some of the other members of the review crew tried out the full curriculum Family Math Packages so make sure to check out other reviews by clicking on the link below.
