Home School Navigator {TOS REVIEW}
Home School Navigator Reading and Language Arts Curriculum is an online/offline program that contains a full year of reading and writing assignments. There are six levels you can find the scope and sequence for each level here.
RED - K reading level
ORANGE- 1st-grade reading level
YELLOW- 2nd-grade reading level
GREEN -3rd-grade reading level
BLUE- 4th-grade reading level
INDIGO - 5th-grade reading level
I received a one-year membership to the website and Captain worked on the Indigo level. We used this on our i-pad but it can work on laptops too. When you log in it goes to the dashboard where you click on the level they are using. We click on Indigo. Each week is listed separately in days and you can click on each day individually. You can easily keep track of where you are by submitting the work you want to save or by clicking that you have completed the day's assignments.
Every month there is a link where you can find the printouts for the month. They are all in order and super easy to find. Of course, although there are lots of handouts with different exercises you don't have to complete all of them. It's completely up to the parent what to prepare and assign.
I did think that Captain would be able to work on this alone, but it's not really suitable for him to do that. It's something that I can assign him a particular worksheet to finish, but not really something I can leave him to work through unattended.
We have recently started working on an Interactive Workbook for the book Holes. The interactive notebooks are designed similarly to lap book but can be used directly into a notebook. We have been using a regular spiral notebook and cutting and pasting the worksheet cutouts directly into it.
The interactive notebook helps the child focus on different sections of the book. It includes vocabulary and comprehension questions. There are questions that are included to help the student. Captain enjoyed learning about Pig Latin, and Palindromes! In fact, all the kids had great fun coming up with names and words!
Captain did find that he really liked the interactive notebook. He loves things that he can work through without me. There is an answer key so it's definitely something that they can work on alone.
We like this program. Captain would like it better if he could log in and work through it online. He's not as keen on worksheets.
We really liked this program. It has an assortment of activities on printable worksheets. There is not online work as such. Everything is printed.
There are so many levels to this program, check out the other reviews so you can see what everyone else thought. If you followed this program I really feel it would help kids become stronger readers and writers.
