Hometown Fireworks!!

We took our 16 year old niece to her first 4th of July Fireworks display tonight!
It was excellent! Nearly 15 minutes of fireworks from our small little town, they did an excellent job.
After the heat advisory it was a perfect 71 degrees, great for fireworks!
We also had some great fun with some light up bubble guns we bought last summer!

We live in a society where we come across people from different cultures every day. I think more people move to live in other countries than ever before.  People moving to different countries means cross-cultural experiences in the classroom for students and teachers. When I was eight my parents moved to the United States. My dad was in the RAF (Royal Air Force) and had been advised to send my older sister and me to boarding school. Whispers in the Reading Room {Litfuse Book Review}

I loved this book. In fact I enjoyed it so much that I read it in less than 24 hours. Now in my defense there was a swim meet involved and so I had very little to do for a whole afternoon. This story is set just after the World Fair in Chicago. Chicago itself has a notorious reputation and this story doesn't disappoint. It's not graphic or nasty just shows a glimpse into the rough and tumble of the underground illegal scene that was rampant during that time. Lydia works in the 'Reading Room' (the library). She becomes interested with a mysterious gentleman 'Sebastian'. He doesn't give his name, nor does he borrow books, just comes in and sits quietly and reads. They both love books and seem to have a lot in common, although they actually come from completely different worlds. A chance meeting starts a chain of events that changes their lives forever. Can Lydia trust Sebastian, who seems to control the city - Is it power or fear or a combination...

Differences in Manners

Have you ever traveled to another country and been surprised by what is or isn't polite. One thing that has surprised me is language. There are a few words in the UK that are considered not polite that are common in the US and the other way around. I remember when my family had just come back from the US to live in England again. My sister said something and an older lady was offended and went to tell my mom. My mom then obviously sat us down and had a conversation about how different things are acceptable in different countries. Obviously, my sister didn't use that word again...and I'm not even going to tell you what it was ☺ The article  13 examples of Good and Bad manners around the world  lists some examples that you may not have heard of; Is belching (burping) always considered rude?
