Review and Giveaway Magic Desktop Parental Software
We spend a lot of time on the computer. My husband works in IT so he's very pro technology. I work online and the kids have quite a few online classes. They only was we can make this work smoothly is for everyone to have their own laptop. Until last year Captain used to share mine, but because it makes sense for him to utilize online courses and programs while I work it became necessary for him to get his own laptop as well.
This is all great as technology is awesome and is really useful. However, I didn't want the kids to have 'free reign' over everything on the Internet. We have tried numerous programs for the computer but so far none of them seemed to be very user friendly.
I heard about Magic Desktop and I was intrigued straight away. The company gave me a family license so I could try it out and tell you all about it! This program works whether you have one shared computer or laptop (single license) or if you have multiple computers like we do (family pack license).
You can learn all about Magic Desktop by watching their video.
"Magic Desktop creates a safe environment, provides children with educational content and delivers tons of fun while they are mastering a computer."
Although my kids vary in ages this program has been really easy to adapt and they love it. My only regret is that I didn't have this years ago!
It was really easy to install and I started on Captain's computer first. He was really excited and loves the pre-installed programs and web-sight links. I was able to add the programs we use for school easily and he can't go wandering on any website that I haven't approved. I even set this up on Jam and Boo's computers even though sometimes I log them off (using an easy parent only password) while I am around as they need a little more freedom for school assignments. However as soon as they are done I can switch the computer back to the program. It literally takes two seconds to turn off and on the program which is great. You can also turn on the 'active parent' feature and create an account which gives you the ability to access your child's computer from your smart phone, tablet and PC. You can approve websites, view their current screen and send secure messages!
Boo really likes some of the fun features and games available on program. Her favorite right now is Magic Tunes.
All of my children had email accounts before we tried this program. The older kids were really worried that they weren't going to be able to continue using this because Magic Desktop has a 'kidsafe' email program. This is definitely one of my favorite features because I was easily able to link their current email account to run through this program.
I love that I can add links to their 'allowed links' this makes it easy to customize for each child and home-school online courses. If you want to come out of the program it is as simple as adding a 4 digit pin number, them when the computer restarts it always goes straight to the Magic Desktop!
In previous programs I had to basically turn off all computer access after hours, because Jam and Boo are very good at organizing their time I don't do this anymore. This program gives me the security of knowing that all inappropriate content is blocked, and so far we LOVE it.

I'm actually looking for something to keep my kids from seeing something that they shouldn't. Be careful little eyes what you see because the father up above is looking down with love is what I sing and tell my kids :)
ReplyDeleteIt would be so helpful to have a little help in keeping the internet safe for all my kids. I can't possibly stand over every computer and device all the time.
ReplyDeleteThe activities look like they will be fun for the girls and encourage learning at the same time. The video showed the sorts of activities they have fun doing when they get to play on the computer.
ReplyDeleteThis looks really cute..
