ENOUGH 10 Things we should be telling teenage girls
Review and Giveaway
The moment this book arrived at my house it was stolen. My 19 year old niece who was staying with us for 6 weeks said "Wow! this looks interesting can I read it. For the next few days she read/quoted parts of the book. When she had finished reading it she brought it back and said that she really enjoyed it. Her favorite part in the book is on page 87.
"Do you remember that warm, tingly feeling you used to get all over your body when you saw a boy you liked? That itchy, eager feeling you get right before you let somebody have a piece of you mind is common sense evacuating your bloodstream. And that floating, invincible euphoria you feel when you're about to take a foolhardy risk, a gamble that is likely a colossal mistake, is common sense evaporating off of your skin"
This book is written by Kate Conner and I really enjoyed it. She is able to get her point across in a very fun, serious way. This book was released on August 1 and I meant to get this post up then, but due to a couple of unforeseen circumstances it is happening today.
Kate Conner is a 27-year-old writer, speaker, and first generation southerner who spends her days learning braille, counseling teenagers via text message, and adjusting to life in middle Georgia. This book is based on a blog post that she wrote last year. The interest in it was so HUGE that it crashed her blog.
This book is full of excellent advice!
We all have teenage girls in our lives that we love, whether it's a sister, friend, or daughter. Conner offers herself as a translator, helping you speak that teenage girl's language and equipping you with a fresh perspective from which to engage her. Kate has identified 10 things these girls need to hear daily from someone who loves them.
Things like;
Facebook, emotions, drama, tanning beds, modesty, and flirtation!
I have gotten a lot out of this book. Not just for my soon to be teen daughter but also for myself. In fact I remembered my nieces favorite part this week, and held my tongue and restrained myself from giving someone a piece of my mind. I visually saw the common sense about to leave my body, and stopped myself.
If you are interested in knowing why Kate has a chapter called 'Neon Purple Leggings', 'The Tanning
Believe me it will be worth it!

I appreciate the effort put forth by so many to help us encourage our girls as they go through the teen years. My daughter will be, officially, a teen shortly and I am gathering resources to encourage and support her as she navigates those waters. This would be another piece of the arsenal. - Lori H

ReplyDeleteWhy do I want this book? Well, for my own daughter. And also because I know a lot of girls in our youth group that really need to be told this kind of stuff by someone who cares about them.
ReplyDeleteBecause I have 4 girls! lol I need all the help I can get :)
