Imagine. . .The Great Flood by Matt Koceich {TOS REVIEW}

Barbour Publishing
Captain loves to read. In fact just yesterday I took him to our main city library to check out about ten books. We have a small library near us but he prefers the downtown one as it has a bigger selection. I sometimes give in and take him their and pay the parking...all in the love of books right! We were offered a new biblical fiction book Imagine...The Great Flood by Matt Koceich from Barbour Publishing. Captain reads at a high level and so had no problem reading this book by himself. In fact he read it one rainy day this summer - yes, that's right in one day! I asked him a few questions about the book and wrote down his responses -

IMAGINE... The Great Flood

Book Summary by Captain -

Corey is upset because his Dad told him they were moving. He's very sad scared. He goes to the park with his Mom and throws a ball to his dog and the ball lands in the forest. The dog runs after the ball and after going into the woods starts barking. Corey runs into the woods after his dog when he bumps his head on a rock and then has an adventure. He goes back in time and visits Noah's ark. He helps Noah and his sons escape super human giants. Corey has lots of adventures while trying to return to Texas and his dog Molly. He is imprisoned in a hole, and escapes with the help of  an elephant and some other animals. He helps Noah and Shem gather the animals into the ark.  At the end of the book Corey falls of a cliff into a newly formed sea and nearly dies he finally ends up at the ark and as he gets to safety he knows he is home. He learns that it is okay to be scared and it makes his move to Florida easier.

Favorite Scene by Captain -
Captain's favorite part of the book is super exciting. The main character Corey nearly loses his friend. His friend falls over the pier when his loses his balance but Corey managed to catch him just in time. Both boys are then helped by a fisherman.

How Captain could relate -

We recently moved states. Captain was very worried about leaving everything he knew behind, especially his friends. He could understand how Corey felt when his Dad told him they were moving. Sometimes although things are hard we can be brave.

As soon as Captain had finished reading this book he said "I can't believe I have to wait till March next year for the next one!!"

I asked him if he would recommend the book and he said yes. He thought quite a few of his friends would like it. I'm not sure of the reading level as Captain reads higher than his age. It is quite a simple chapter book so would probably fall into the same level as A-Z mysteries or the Magic Tree house books.
