Let's Go Geography {TOS Review}

Let's Go Geography
Let's Go Geography

Captain and I have been working through the weekly lessons from a great homeschool geography curriculum from Let's Go Geography. It's been really simple to implement into our routine and is all prepared for me I just have to print or click depending on the activity.

The program is designed in weekly geography lessons and perfect for homeschool students. These can be broken down into daily sections probably lasting 5-10 minutes or you could do the whole lesson in one day. Captain prefers this option so we rotate geography with science so he only does one of these subjects on any given day.

The program is designed for K-4th grade. Since Captain is at the older age level he can go through the material a little quicker which is why he prefers to do all of the activities in one day. The only time we work on something for more than one day is if we don't have time to complete the project.

Captain loves how he can just click on a link and go straight to a video or article about the country he is studying. Plus if you want to expand the research there are suggested library books right in the text so you don't have to hunt around for relevant books from the library!

I made Captain his very own travel journal using one of the printable options that comes with the course, and printed off his very own passport to use for our studies. I then found dividers and used the labels provided to separate NORTH AMERICA, ASIA, EUROPE, SOUTH AMERICA, and AUSTRALIA / ANTARCTICA. Having this prepared and some of the first lessons pre-printed got Captain really excited to start. He loves workbooks/folders and this one hit the nail on the head.

The only think that would have made this easier would have been to have all the papers that need to be printed together so I could have just hit print once. However, I was able to pick and choose the papers we printed versus those we used online (mainly the ones with the clickable links) so I guess it wasn't that big a deal. Each lesson contains about 30 pages so it could add up to a lot of ink and paper so it's cost efficient to pick and choose those you need.

Each lesson there is a map to color, a flag to color and cut, music to enjoy from the country, videos links to explore the country and go on a virtual sightseeing tour, a picture to color and an optional craft to make.

Captain had a fun time making a lighthouse that went along with the lesson about the east coast. It has a little battery operated candle in it so he keeps it by the side of his bed. It was an easy craft and I had everything in the house except for one kind of plastic cup I picked up from a dollar store so it was really cheap and quick.

I love that there are links to downloadable maps that can be used for the lessons or a suggestion of a book you can buy instead of printing if preferred. I even made use of some flag stickers that I had picked up years ago and had never used!

The lessons are simple but well constructed and perfect for this age group. You could even add on the information to make it more suitable for an older child.

Although there is only year one currently available. Let's Go Geography has a three year 'WORLD TOUR' plan. If you look at the picture below it explains how it will be split up.
