WorthyKids/Ideals - The Book Series - The Secret of the Hidden Scrolls {TOS Review}

WorthyKids

Captain loves to read. I have said this many times. So any chance we get to read a new book, especially one that teaches we jump at the chance. We were recently introduced to a new book series by WorthyKids/Ideals called The Secret of the Hidden Scrolls.

These books were a fun and easy read for Captain. He's eight but reads at a very high level. Sometimes that means he's tempted to skip over younger level books. However, he realized that sometimes it's fun to sit down and read a book in a couple of hours. Which is just what he did with these books. In fact he enjoyed them so much he read them both in one day!

These books are a time travel adventure series. We have similar books on our book shelves related to history, or just fun exciting adventures. These however, are the first set that transport the kids back in time to exciting adventures in Bible history. We received the first two books in The Secret of the Hidden Scrolls series and the first thing Captain said to me as he finished the second book was - When does the next one come out...can we buy it!

Book one - The Beginning

The Secret of the Hidden Scrolls

This book has twelve chapters and is 107 pages long. It also has some cute black and white drawings throughout the book. It's not a picture book as there isn't a picture on each page but enough to be interesting. This book is about the beginning of the world. It takes the reader on an adventure through the creation of the world through to the Garden of Eden. The main characters in the story are siblings Peter and Mary and their dog Hank. They have to solve a mystery to be able to return home!

Captain's Thoughts-
Peter and Mary's Great Uncle Solomon is an archeologist and all his life he has gone on adventures trying to find the hidden scrolls. He went to the Dead Sea in Israel and he found them. He brought them back to his house and put them in his library where he kept his important finds. One night, Peter and Mary and their dog Hank came to stay and when they went to bed they heard a lion's roar! Peter and Mary both left their rooms and met in the hallway, as they both came out to investigate the sound. Peter asked Mary if she had heard the roar too! They went into the library and they saw something glowing. When they got closer they found it was the hidden scrolls. They broke the seal to one of the scrolls and traveled back in time. In fact they traveled back to when the earth was being created. They were saved by an Angel called Michael when they found themselves swimming before the land and sea were separated. They even got to visit the Garden of Eden. They had to solve the mystery of the hidden scrolls. Which was difficult as the scrolls were written in Hebrew! I really liked this book!

Book two - Race to the Ark

The Secret of the Hidden Scrolls

This book has thirteen chapters and has 118 pages. Just like the previous books the siblings Peter and Mary are staying with their Great Uncle who is a archaeologist. Unlike the first book this one has a prologue at the beginning. This story sends our main characters back to the time of Noah and the Ark. They get to have some adventures while helping Noah get the ark ready in time.

Captains Thoughts -

This book is the second adventure of Peter and Mary. When visiting their Great Uncle they always know they can go on adventure when they hear the roar of a lion. When they hear this they can go into the library and see the scrolls. However, this time their Great Uncle Solomon has packed them some supplies. They have a tent, hatchet, and a old leather book. This book is their Great Uncle's adventure journal. Their Uncle does this after they get back from their first adventure. Peter and Mary choose a scroll with a picture of a boat on the seal. They break the seal and find themselves in the time period of Noah's Ark. They land in what looks like a kingdom full of wicked people. Satan or as he is called in the book THE DARK RULER says the people can do whatever they want. They can cheat, lie, and steal! It's not a very nice place. The kids are chased into the woods by a boy and a wolf called Shadow. They luckily meet Shem. They continue their adventures and at the same time help Noah and his family finish building the ark before the floods come. It's an exciting book! I can't wait to read the third book!

These books are written for ages 6-9 and are considered a 1-3 grade level.
