Grace of God A Story of Easter Traditions - {Review and Giveaway}
I was recently sent a copy of the movie Grace of God by Dove.org from my friends at Flyby Promotions. Since my in-laws were arriving from the UK I decided to keep this to watch with them on a Sunday afternoon. So last Sunday we all sat down to enjoy this movie together.
The film has one of my favorites from Cheers in it John Ratzenberger and so I was quite looking forward to it. I was a little disappointed that he didn't have a bigger part but it was still good.
The movie is about Detective Bill Broadly (actually ex-cop turned private eye in the movie) who lost his faith in God many years before, and is a little antagonistic towards the congregation of a church were he has been asked to investigate the disappearance of the collection plate.
Here's what the DVD case says about the movie;
Having lost his faith many years ago, Detective Bill Broadly is called to investigate the disappearance of the local church’s collection plate. As he questions its various church members, rumors swirl as more congregants learn about the theft. When one unexpected church-goer confesses to stealing the funds, the confession resurrects Broadly’s views on God, and helps him see that through faith and belief there really is rebirth and redemption.
The movie itself is rated 12+ but we actually watched it as a family and Captain is only 6, now I am not saying it kept his attention but I didn't think it was unsuitable. So I am not sure why it got the 12+ rating.
This movie covers a lot of themes that we all go through at different times. Sometimes judging people just because they may have made mistakes in the past, or thinking people think they are better than us or judging others. The movie makes a good point towards the end that we are all sinners and need forgiveness for various things. It reminds me of the saying 'Don't judge me just because I sin differently than you.'
We all struggle with something and sometimes they are more obvious than others.
At the end of the movie the thief comes forward and asks for forgiveness. This makes Bill Broadly have to think deeply about his previous misconceptions.
It's not a movie full of excitement and intrigue but definitely one that can make you think.
